About
Garden Designer Bristol

Alicia is an experienced Garden Designer offering Garden Design & Landscape Design services in Bristol and the South West. She has spent over 10 years working in the garden design and horticultural industry, gaining a BA (Hons) in Garden Design at The University of Greenwich.

Upon graduating she worked for Marian Boswall Landscape Architects in Kent, who specialise in Historic Garden Restoration. It was during this time that she was lead planting designer on the Society of Garden Designers award winning project Reighton Wood. During her time in Kent she also took the opportunity to undergo training at the prestigious Great Dixter garden.

On returning to the South West, she gained further training working on projects with RHS Chelsea flower show gold medalist Sam Ovens Landscape Design based in Cornwall, and Karena Batstone based in Bristol, before establishing Alicia Savage Garden Design. Alicia has since been implementing projects that reflect her natural understanding of design and composition alongside a love of plants that soften and bring her gardens to life.

Huge thanks to the amazing team that have got us short listed for the 2019 SGD awards. The gorgeous planting team Alicia Savage & Jeanette Lerwill!

Approach
Initial Site Meeting & Consultation

An initial site meeting to explore the garden and discuss the brief and concept ideas. The information gathered at this initial meeting will then be compiled into a document that offers advice for the design.

Site Survey

Detailed survey carried out with Leica laser level that includes levels, boundaries and house.

Concept Design

A detailed plan outlining the footprint of the concept with a series of detailed perspectives and sections which provide a sense of space and proposed levels. Materials and planting palettes are also included in this stage.

Masterplanning & Specification

This phase includes detailed construction drawings which are sent out to landscapers for quoting. Getting the right landscaper for the job is so important and I frequently work alongside Uri Peel of Peel Projects, who is an excellent landscaper with a great breadth of experience.

Planting Plans & Implementation

A detailed plan which proposes where the plants suggested in the concept palette will be best suited in the site and presented in the most aesthetically pleasing way. Plant sourcing is also included in this stage and the client can benefit from a trade discount.

Continued Garden Maintenance

Continued garden maintenance ensures that your new design stays looking at its best and continues to grow and develop. I can recommend qualified gardeners who will help it flourish.

Alicia Savage took on our garden in Spring 2013, turning it from a boring expanse of gravel to a beautifully textured and layered garden with a distinct and natural sense of drama. Introducing surprise by ‘hiding’ parts of the garden, with elements revealing themselves only as you travelled through it and her intuitive understanding of shape and planting has meant that the garden, while small, appears to be larger than it actually is. Not only is it beautiful, but constantly changing. It is the most wonderful garden and we are so proud of it and extremely grateful for all that she did. Alicia is a hard-working and talented gardener as well as being a lovely person!
